Former Anderson Co. mayor pleads guilty to fraud, conflict of interest

ANDERSON CO., Tenn. (WVLT) -- Former Anderson Co. Mayor Rex Lynch pleaded guilty to two felonies and six misdemeanors following a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation into official misconduct and tax fraud/evasion, the agency announced on Friday.

In all, Lynch, 46, pleaded guilty to one count each of Conflict of Interest, Official Misconduct, and Sales Tax Fraud Greater than $500, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor six counts of Sales Tax Fraud Less than $500. The Official Misconduct charged was then dismissed.

He was sentenced to two years of unsupervised probation and ordered to pay $695.89 in restitution. He is eligible for judicial diversion.

The TBI sayd it began investigating Lynch in July of 2010 following allegations he falsified a vehicle transfer affidavit and personally benefited from the sale of an Anderson Co. vehicle.
