KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) --A jury convicted a former UT student in the murder of a popular waitress.
The jury found 24-year-old Micah Johnson guilty in the death of 24-year-old Carrie Daugherty. She was beaten and strangled outside the home she shared with his girlfriend in March 2008.
Criminal Court Judge Mary Beth Leibowitz sentenced Johnson to life with the chance of parole after a mandatory 51-year prison term.
It took jurors about six hours to convict Johnson.
