Crimetracker: Hawkins County drug bust

HAWKINS COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- At every house a dog barked followed by a knock at the door as Hawkins County deputies led dozens away in handcuffs.

It's the culmination of a year's work in what the sheriff's department calls "Operation Be Mine."

"We made a a dent in arresting these people everyone is actually selling narcotics or causing a problem in the community," said Sheriff Ronnie Lawson.

For over a year, undercover officers worked with informants who won the trust of those buying, selling, and making meth and peddling pot and painkillers.

Lawson told us, "I've got good officers that help me and they've got the heart to do what's right and as you seen today they were ready to go. They were organized and they followed the plan, had 15 people in over an hour, so we're still going on. Just because we're going this roundup doesn't mean our investigation stopped, we're going to continue on."

In all, the operation netted 35 people.
