Homeowner in Claiborne Co. standoff arrested

Norman Stacey Whiley reportedly called police Tuesday evening around 6:45 p.m. He claimed he walk in on a robbery and even exchanged fire with the intruder.

HARROGATE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Claiborne Co. authorities arrest a homeowner after he said he walked in on a robber in his home on Bolton Circle in Harrogate turned out to false.

Norman Stacey Whiley is being held with out bond on charges he filed a false police report.

The 30 year-old reportedly called police Tuesday evening around 6:45 p.m. He claimed he walk in on a robbery and even exchanged fire with the intruder.

Police and the SWAT team surrounded the home for hours, under the impression a robber was still in the home. The standoff came to end around 9:30 p.m. when authorities launched tear gas into the home.
