Husband shoots self after shooting wife twice; both survive

SEYMOUR, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Seymour man turns a gun on himself moments after shooting his wife twice during an argument Sunday night, according to Sevier Co. Sheriff Ron Seals. Both of them survived.

Seals said Teddy E. Blankenship was arguing with his wife Dorothy in their home, 1720 Dinkins Road, when Blankenship shot her twice, grazing her ears. Blankenship then reportedly went into another room where he shot himself in the temple with a .22 caliber revolver.

Officers were called to the home shortly after 9:30 p.m. There, they found Blankenship lying face down on a mattress. He was taken via Lifestar to U.T. Medical Center.

The incident is still under investigation, according to Seals, and charges are pending until the conclusion of the investiagtion.
