Investigation continues into Grainger Co. homicide

WASHBURN, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Authorities are still trying to track down whoever was behind the murder of a man in Grainger Co over the weekend.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Gregory Martin John, 36, was killed at 8491 Cracker Neck Road in Washburn on Sunday afternoon. The Grainger County Coroner's Office declared him dead at the scene.

The TBI said it was asked to assist the Grainger Co. Sheriff's Office with the investigation into John's murder, along with U.S. Marshals and the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office. All Grainger County deputies are actively involved in the manhunt.

The TBI says it is continuing to investigate and has not identified any suspects.

In a statement, Sheriff Scott Layel says, "I am deeply concerned as to the tragedy that affected this community. I am confident that our investigation will result in the perpetrator(s) being brought to justice."
