Jackson rape suspect charged with attempted murder during consensual sex

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities say a Jackson man suspected in a series of rapes has been charged with trying to kill a woman.

Investigators say 34-year-old Alvin Waller Jr. and a 32-year-old woman were having consensual sex behind a church last week, when Waller allegedly pulled a gun and shot her, according to The Jackson Sun.

The woman was treated at a local hospital and released. Waller has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and is being held on $750,000 bond.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office also has charged Waller with one count of especially aggravated kidnapping and seven counts of aggravated rape.

In addition, Jackson police have charged Waller with especially aggravated kidnapping and three counts of aggravated rape in a May attack on a Jackson woman.
