Jail ministry volunteer arrested for sexual contact with inmate

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A 63 year-old volunteer with a jail ministry program was arrested on Tuesday and charged with sexual contact with an inmate and coercing a witness, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said.

Charles Rawlins, of Dunlap, was overseeing operations at the Sequatchie Co. food bank when the contact reportedly occurred. The TBI and the Sequatchie Co. Sheriff's Office have been investigating the matter since July 22.

Earlier this week, a witness told authorities Rawlins approached him and he felt threatened.

Rawlins was booked in Sequatchie Co. Jail and is being held without bond until his court date on August 19.

This is the kind of reason that a lot of people won't go to church. "Sexual contact with an inmate." I personally know of 2 Pastor's who repeatedly cheated on their wives. How can you trust these people to lead you spiritualy?
