MOUNTAIN CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities are still trying to determine who shot an elderly couple while they were sleeping in their East Tennessee home.

Authorities told the Johnson City Press that 66-year-old Arvil Clark and his 67-year-old wife, Margaret Clark, of Mountain City, were shot multiple times early Tuesday.

Investigators with the Johnson County Sheriff's Department have yet to determine a motive.

The Clarks were taken to Johnson City Medical Center, where both are in stable condition.
