KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- One man was arrested late Tuesday night after getting into a fight with an officer who was attempting to take him into custody, according to the Knoxville Police Dept.

According to police reports, the officer had responded to the 4500 block of Sullivan Rd. around a quarter past ten on reports of a intoxicated man who had a gun. When the officer arrived, he learned the man, Robert Jackson, had been asked to leave after reportedly becoming violent.

A friend was going to give Jackson a ride, but his behavior forced the friend to pull over on Walnoak and kick him out of the vehicle. When the officer found him, Jackson allegedly became violent and fought back as the officer tried to detain him. He was finally corralled after another officer arrived to assist. No weapon was found.

Jackson was taken to Knox Co. Detention Facility where he was charged with Public Intoxication, Assault (Officer), Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting Arrest.

The officer was checked out at UT Medical Center and released.
