KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Knoxville couple has been charged with theft of over $60,000 in state grant money for a biodiesel plant in Morgan County that investigators say was spent for personal use.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a release Friday that 57-year-old John Brichetto and 47-year-old Lisa Horn-Brichetto were indicted by a Morgan County grand jury and were arrested at their home on Thursday night.
The agency said they received separate checks in June and July of 2008 totaling $142,000. The money came through Morgan County from the Department of Economic and Community Development to create a biodiesel plant.
An audit by the state found that the couple spent a small part of the money for equipment for the plant, but most of the money was spent for personal use.
