KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)--The Magnolia Mini Mart is the latest victim of the city's nuisance ordinance, and Knoxville police have one message for other "trouble businesses": straighten up!
KPD spokesman Darrell DeBusk said, "we are looking at some additional locations that continue to operate, knowingly violating the law and allowing illegal activities to go on on their properties, and we're going to keep watching those."
People in the neighborhood told us the Mini Mart shut down was overdue.
"It should have happened way long ago. Even before that owner got there that was a bad spot," said one man, who wanted to remain anonymous.
DeBusk said, "you have multiple calls, you have multiple kinds of incidents including robberies, stabbings, carjackings, thefts..."
He said that kind of activity makes businesses targets under the nuisance ordinance. So far they've shut down 10, and they're on the lookout for more.
