KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Knoxville woman is facing several charges after her Jeep Cherokee reportedly broke down on the side of the Alcoa Hwy. and was struck from behind as she and a passenger tried to push it off the road.

Thirty-four year-old Wendy M. Pointer was charged with Driving Under the Influence, Driving on a Suspended License, Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance, and Improper Rear Lights.

According to police, Pointer and another woman were pushing the Jeep out of the right hand lane of Alcoa Hwy. near Mt. Vernon when the SUV was struck from behind by another vehicle shortly before 1:30 a.m. Monday morning

Witnesses told authorities the Cherokee's rear lights weren't on, so the other driver had no way of seeing it.

The other woman took off on foot before police arrived and investigators are still trying to track her down.
