McMinn Co. man indicted for shooting death of nephew

McMINN COUNTY, Tenn. (TBI) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has obtained an indictment for a McMinn County man accused of shooting and killing his nephew.

TBI Special Agents began investigating Marvin Derick Hayes on March 9, 2014, the same day deputies found his nephew, 22-year-old Brandon Lee Hayes, shot at Marvin’s home in Niota.

Brandon later died at UT Medical Center. During the course of the investigation, Special Agents interviewed Marvin, during which he acknowledged his involvement in the shooting.

On Tuesday, the McMinn County Grand Jury returned an indictment for the 35-year-old, charging him with one count of Voluntary Manslaughter. Earlier today, Hayes turned himself in to the McMinn County Jail, where at the time of this release, he was being held on a $20,000 bond.

The case remains active and ongoing. Anyone with specific information should contact the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
