Memphis City Schools teacher faces sex charges

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Police in Memphis say a city school system teacher cruised the streets trying to lure teenage boys on their way to school into sex acts.

Darrin Miller, who is 24, was charged with seven felony counts and three misdemeanor counts, according to a police statement.

The youths who were approached were 13 to 17 years old and were solicited near Hamilton High School, Hamilton Middle School, Melrose High School and Sherwood Middle School. The incidents occurred over the last year.

Miller is a teacher at Sheffield High School. Police Sgt. Karen Rudolph said none of the youths were his students.

Memphis City Schools officials told The Commercial Appeal that Miller teaches theater at Sheffield and was suspended without pay on Tuesday, pending the outcome of charges against him.
