Memphis jury convicts woman in husband's death

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A jury in Memphis has convicted a woman of second-degree murder in the shooting death of her husband.

Jurors deliberated a charge of first-degree murder over three days, then returned the lesser verdict on Thursday against 39-year-old Pamela Taylor, according to The Commercial Appeal.

Taylor's lawyer had argued the shooting of Michael Taylor on Dec. 23, 2009, was in self-defense. Taylor testified that her husband was threatening to kill her and that a pistol she was holding in the sleeve of her sweatshirt discharged as she tried to push him away.

The medical examiner said Michael Taylor was shot in the heart and behind the right ear.

Pamela Taylor will be sentenced on Jan. 18. The conviction carries a prison term of 15 to 25 years with no parole.
