Memphis police officer charged with child sex

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Police in Memphis have charged a city police officer with having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Ericck Cain is charged with aggravated statutory rape and exploitation of a minor by electronic means. Investigators said the latter charge involves Cain sending the girl nude photos of himself by email.

The 25-year-old Cain was arrested after authorities were told Monday night that he was sexually involved with a minor. Cain was relieved of duty, pending the outcome of the charges. He had been assigned to uniformed patrol out of the Mt. Moriah Station.

Police Chief Toney Armstrong issued a statement, saying it was disheartening to know an officer had "taken the innocence of a child."
