Mother looking for person who killed her son in East Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The last time Ann Marotti talked to her son was on January 5, 2013. It was his birthday and the day he was murdered.

"We talked about him coming home sometime at the end of January, early February, and we would celebrate our holiday then," she says.

But she'd never get that visit.

Later that night, police found 37-year-old Lee Byford's body in his SUV on Bonnie View Lane. He had been shot twice.

"All they've said basically is that they don't think this is random. It's not in a high crime area. They think the motive is possibly a robbery." Marotti explains.

A year and a half later, neither police, nor the family knows who did it.

"This person, every time they look in the mirror, it's the last person my son saw, his last face," Marotti says.

She lives in Arkansas, but comes to Knoxville often, trying to keep the case on everyone's minds. She joined a group of friends Saturday morning to hand out fliers, hoping someone might come forward with information.

"You never know, you may think you know something everybody knows, but maybe not," Dean Huff, Byford's friend, says.

"We just want everyone to know, and the person who took him, we're not gonna stop. We're not gonna stop," Marotti says.

The family is offering a $5,000 reward for information that will help catch the killer. Anyone with information of the crime can call their local law enforcement agency.
