PIKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Trial is beginning for a Bledsoe County man charged with the 2009 kidnapping and beating death of a man at a cookout.
Lonny Lee Angel Jr. faces charges of first-degree murder, felony murder and kidnapping in the death of 43-year-old Donny Lawson and is one of four men arrested in the killing. Two others are already serving prison time.
Court records and officials quoted by the Chattanooga Times Free Press said Angel's trial was scheduled to begin Monday in Pikeville.
Investigators said the fight that resulted in Lawson's death occurred when the men had gathered on Angel's property for a barbecue and an argument erupted over a fire that had killed a member of Angel's family the year before.
