New prison taking shape in East Tennessee

PIKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A new 1,444-bed state prison is starting to take shape in East Tennessee.

The $208 million Bledsoe County Correctional Complex is being constructed on 2,200 acres of the Cumberland Plateau. Recently, rows of gray housing units were being configured from stacked, precast cells built on the prison grounds.

Warden Jim Morrow says he expects the facility to get its first inmates in January 2013.

He told The Chattanooga Times Free Press that it will house mostly medium-security prisoners and have some of the latest prison design features, including a pair of tunnels that are the only entrance and exit.

Good. It will take a lot more prison space to hold the violent criminals that are through out today's society. It may take marshal law to rid us of the scourge of the drug dealers but whatever it takes it must be done or we will drift further into an abyss that resembles a third world country. When I say drugs, I mean the highly addictive type that we see and read about in the news media. A hunger is created that demands time, energy, as well as large amounts of money to quench.
