Officer injured in struggle, police searching for suspect

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- An officer was injured during a struggle with a suspect, who managed to break free and get away, according to the Knoxville Police Dept.

Authorites said the Officer John Williams spotted the suspect, Todd Benjamin Reagan, sitting in the passenger seat of a car parked at the Tobacco Stop, 1049 Maryville Pike. Reagan, 34, broke free as the officer tried to arrest him and took off on foot.

Members of the KPD and the Knox County Sheriff's Department set up a perimeter, but have not found him. The driver of the car in which Reagan was found was detained for questioning.

The officer was taken to UT Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.

Police said Reagan is wanted on nine outstanding warrants: 5 for Failure to Appear, 3 for Forgery, and 1 for Theft. They expect several several more warrants to be issued related to Reagan's assault on the officer.

He was last seen wearing blues jeans, tennis shoes, and no shirt. He's described as being 6 feet tall, 180-200 lbs., with hazel eyes, and bald.

I just want to say that I am very proud of the officer that tried to capture the criminal that attacked him because first the criminal was wanted and had many charges and it was very observant of the officer to recognize him. He tried to arrest him and he was attacked and I am very upset that the officer was injured. I hope they catch the jerk. I pray that the officer is ok and he is safe.
