HALLS, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A man involved in a home invasion says he thought the people he took to a house wanted marijuana. A police report says instead, they tried to rob the people living there at gunpoint and shot a man.
Stephen Russell told police Daryn Kerr contacted him on Monday and asked him if he knew where to get marijuana. When Kerr picked him up, he had Isaac Lane and another man in the car with him.
They drove to the house on Norris Freeway Monday evening.
The police report says Duncan Mcnamara heard a knock at the back door and saw Russell. He opened the door to let him in, when two men with bandanas over their face forced their way in.
One had a semi-automatic handgun, the other had a revolver.
Kerr and another unidentified man asked the people living there where the money was, and told everyone to get to the ground.
They heard one of the people struggling with Hilton Bolton, also living in the house, and heard a gunshot.
The suspects ran out the back door. Crews took Hilton Bolton to UT Medical Center.
Russell told police Kerr stayed in the car. He says he didn't know the other two men planned on a robbery.
He says one of the men kept hitting him on the head with a handgun and threatened his life. Police say they noticed swelling on Russell's head.
Police have arrest Daryn Kerr and Isaac Lane. They were both charged with one count each of Attempted Especially Aggravated Robbery and Especially Aggravated Burglary.
Police are still investigating what happened.
