KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A high speed chase through a Knoxville neighborhood ended when the suspect drove his car into the Holston River around 3:45 PM Sunday.
Police were first called to the 2000 block of Jefferson Avenue after several people heard gunfire.
Officers found a black Nissan Pathfinder on Castle Street that matched the description witnesses gave them.
They say 22-year-old Travis Mack led them on a chase through Holston Hills, in front of the country club, and eventually ended in a river near Holston View Lane.
Mack is charged with Evading Arrest, Driving on a Suspended License, and Reckless Driving. He was also issued a citation for Failure to Provide Financial Responsibility.
The passenger, 18-year-old Jeremy Edwards, is charged with Drug Free School Zone Violation, Public Intoxication, Simple Possession, Resisting Stop – Halt and Frisk, and no seat belt.
Other charges may be filed.
