SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Sevierville Police Dept. has found the black minivan involved in a chase on Interstate 40 on Monday. Officers broke off the pursuit due to concerns about public safety.
The search for the suspects continues, according to police. They are wanted for several vending machine and guest room robberies at mainly hotels in the Kodak area along Highway 66 over the past couple months, making off with nearly $1,000.
The chase started after someone called 911 and told authorities they believed two of the suspects in a string of vending machine robberies were at the Clarion Inn on Hwy. 66. When officers from the Sevierville Police Dept. arrived, they saw the black minivan tags taking off. Both the minivan and its plates were stolen from North Carolina.
It headed north on Highway 66 and refused to stop. Police tailed the minivan on I-40 until it reached the Strawberry Plains exit, at which point they called off their pursuit sue to concerns about public safety.
The van was last seen leaving the Interstate near the Holston River Bridge.
