School board member charged with assault

BRADFORD, Tenn. (AP) -- A West Tennessee school board official is charged with assaulting a referee after a basketball game.

A Bradford Police Department news release cited by The Jackson Sun states 49-year-old Mark Hampton was cited for assaulting TSSAA game official Donny Joyner in the Lobby of Bradford High School. Hampton is a member of the Bradford Special School District board.

Police Sgt. Dave Chaffin said an officer who was on duty for the Bradford and Trenton Peabody game Tuesday night witnessed the altercation and filed a report. The charge was issued Thursday.
