KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- One man was rushed to a local hospital after being hit by a car police said was driven by a suspected shoplifter trying to flee the Wal-Mart on Clinton Highway shortly after 5:30 Monday evening.
Knoxville Police said the 58 year-old was struck by a gold Lexus SUV with a Tennessee tag. The victim reportedly suffered a significant fracture and a deep laceration to his elbow. He was taken to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment.
The driver was described as a man wearing a white t-shirt, brown or black shorts, and black shoes. Witnesses told police he left the parking lot headed southbound on Clinton Hwy.
Police said the driver was was trying to get away after stealing printer ink cartridges from the store.
