Suspect arrested after alleged attempted burglarly

A Knoxville man was arrested early Sunday morning after an officer found him hiding behind a concrete barrier while checking the businesses at Northgate Plaza Shopping Center, according to Knoxville police.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Knoxville man was arrested early Sunday morning after an officer found him hiding behind a concrete barrier while checking the businesses at Northgate Plaza Shopping Center, according to Knoxville police.

William D. Berry, 34, was charged with Attempted Burglary, Possession of Burglary Tools, Resisting Stop, Halt, Frisk and Search, and Evading Arrest. Officials believe he was trying to break in to the Magic Nails, 4330 N. Broadway.

According to reports, Berry was hiding when the officer noticed him and ordered Berry to show his hands. At that point, Berry took off running, but was quickly chased down by the officer.

Authorities said that during the chase, Berry tossed away a black crow bar. Once he was arrested, police allegedly found several of what they describe as burglary tools, including a screwdrive, pliers, box cutter, and a flashlight.

He is being held on $6,500 bond.
