Clarksville woman arrested in jewelry theft

BILOXI, Miss. (AP) -- Police have arrested a second suspect in a theft of more than $400,000 worth of jewelry from a Mississippi business.

The Sun Herald reports 28-year-old Stephanie Marie Reda of Clarksville, Tenn., was charged with embezzlement Wednesday in connection with $403,000 worth of merchandise missing from Harris Jewelry in Biloxi's Edgewater Mall.

Reda, who had been the store's manager, was extradited from Tennessee and taken to the Harrison County jail on a $75,000 bond set by Justice Court Judge Bruce Strong.

In February, Mateya Rejane Perez of Gulfport, was charged with one count of felony embezzlement and was also released on $75,000 bond.

Perez was assistant manager while Reda was manager.

Investigator Mike Shaw says the women allegedly took 422 pieces of jewelry over several months.
