Trio charged with mugging outside Washington Pike market

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A traffic stop on N. Broadway leads to charges for three people who claim they were robbed outside of a Washington Pike market on Monday.

Josue Herberto Diaz-Hernandez, Eliazar Ortiz, and a 17 year-old juvenile all face Aggravated Robbery charges. Diaz-Hernandez, who was behind the wheel, also faces charges of No Drivers License and Possession of Stolen License Plates.

The victims approached officers after they stopped a silver Honda for allegedly driving erratically around 9:40 p.m. According to police, the car turned off of N. Broadway onto Atlantic Ave. then onto Pacific Street before the car stopped suddenly. The officer said he saw a handgun thrown out of the car and a man get out an start running.

Officers were unable to find him, but detained the other three people in the car for investigation. While securing two of them, the victims came forth and said they were the ones who robbed them at gunpoint outside the market.

The gun thrown from the vehicle turned out to be an airsoft gun with the the orange tip painted black so it would look like a real gun.
