BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) -- A Beckley woman accused in the abuse of her young daughter will be sent to Tennessee to face similar charges.
The Associated Press reports Sabrina Smith appeared in Raleigh County Circuit Court on Friday and waived her right to challenge her extradition. She is charged in Union County, Tenn., with two counts of child neglect and one count of child abuse.
Smith's 6-year-old daughter was unresponsive when her mother brought her to Raleigh General Hospital in early September weighing less than 20 pounds. Smith and a roommate were arrested the following month.
Detectives say food was regularly restricted from the girl and she was often put in a child-safety seat.
The girl was placed with a foster family and has since gained substantial weight.
