SEYMOUR, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A former bus driver faces multiple charges, including Driving Under the Influence, after the students and adults on the bus at the time said he ran several and crossed the center line several times before finally stopping at a Dandridge convenience store Thursday evening. Jerry Carr, Jr. is also accused of kicking a hospital security guard in the groin after he was taken to the hospital for a legal blood draw.

An attorney for the Sevier Co. School Board, Chris McCarty, Carr was fired that night and the board intended to send the letter confirming his termination on Friday. He also commended Coach Daniel Rucker for his swift action in getting Carr to stop the bus, which was transporting Seymour High School's freshmen basketball team.

According to police reports, an officer responded to the Weigel's around 6:30 p.m. to meet the bus and found Carr in the driver's seat with the motor running. The officer described Carr as appearing "heavily intoxicated" with bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and a strong smell of alcohol. He stated that Carr told him he "had been drinking beer."

Carr performed poorly during field sobriety tests, according to the officer, who added the bus driver was very unsteady and almost fell down as he got off the bus.

When the officer told Carr he was being arrested for suspicion for driving under the influence and attempted to place his hands behind his back, the officer reported that Carr pulled them away and took an "aggressive position with a clutched fist." The arresting officer, who by this time was joined by another officer, managed to wrestle Carr to the ground, where he continued to resist by putting his hands underneath him, according to police reports.

When they arrived at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Carr allegedly kicked the security guard before stumbling and falling. After refusing to submit to the test Carr was taken to Jefferson Co. Justice Center.

Carr has been charged with Driving Under the Influence, Violation, Resisting Arrest, and Reckless Endangerment.
