Woman charged with killing twins has bond hearing

GALLATIN, Tenn. (AP) -- A Tennessee judge is allowing a woman charged with smothering her newborn twins in September to remain free on $250,000 bond despite a positive test for drug use.

The father of 25-year-old Lindsey Lowe testified during a hearing Friday in Gallatin that he insisted she take two doses of Valium the day of the babies' funeral. Mark Lowe said the medication came from Lowe's grandmother.

Dr. William Kenner testified those pills could have caused Lowe to test positive for a benzodiazepine (ben-zoh-dahy-AZ'-uh-peen) drug. Prosecutors had asked Judge James Hunter to send Lowe back to jail because of the results on the court-ordered drug test.

Hunter ruled that Lowe didn't intentionally violate her $250,000 bond. He warned Lowe not to take any medication that wasn't prescribed for her.
