Young man charged in stabbing of grandparents

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- Police in Johnson City have charged a 20-year-old man in the fatal stabbing of his grandmother and the wounding of his grandfather.

Cody Russell is scheduled for arraignment Friday.

Freida Russell died of stab wounds in her apartment, according to the Johnson City Press (http://bit.ly/nR3vRz ). The 62-year-old victim's husband, 65-year-old, Clifford Russell, underwent emergency surgery for a stab wound to the neck.

Cody Russell is charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. Washington County Detention Center records don't show whether he yet has an attorney.

A police investigator was speaking to reporters in the apartment parking lot Thursday evening when he saw Cody Russell walking toward his car and arrested him.
