Driver pleads guilty in crash that killed 21 year-old mom, baby

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The man involved in the fatal crash on Alcoa Hwy. that killed a 21 year-old mother and her 10 month-old son pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide on Wednesday. Jeffrey Knight will be sentenced on January 9th and is expected to serve two 10 year terms concurrently.

During his plea, Knight apologized to the family, admitting that since he didn't have kids he couldn't imagine what they were going through.

According to police, Knight was heading north on Alcoa Hwy in February 2010, when his Geo Prizm crossed the median, went airborne, and crashed in the Pontiac Sunfire driven by Brittany Thomas. Thomas and her son Aiden were killed instantly.

After hitting Thomas' car, the Prizm flipped onto its roof and was hit by a Ford F-350 carrying six people. No one in the truck was hurt. Knight, who was 40 at the time, had to be rushed to the UT Medical Center in critical condition.
