(WILX) -- Honolulu has become the first major U.S city to ban cellphone use in crosswalks.
The 'distracted pedestrian' law was recently approved by the Hawaiian Capitol, and will take affect in October. City leaders say the law is needed because so many people- especially seniors- are hit by cars in crosswalks.
In Addition to cell phones, the law bans using laptops, video games, and cameras in crosswalks. First time violators can get fined up to $35. A second offense could cost $75, and a third time offender could be paying $99.
