KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)- Downtown Knoxville known for restaurants and bars, but in this week's Inside of Knoxville we're talking to Alan Sims about what else it has to offer.
Now it's also becoming more of a retail spot for small local businesses.
The Old City has seen several new shops pop up and some relocate.
Rala used to be beside Market Square, but had to move and found a larger location in the Old City of Jackson Avenue.
"One of the problems with retails if you're one of the first in an area people want to go from one place to the other and that's been hard to do in the past. Many people are watching this now think 'oh the Old City that's where the bars are.' Well, there's a whole lot more to the Old City now and this store is one example," said Alan Sims, author of Inside of Knoxville.
Just down the street and around the corner for Rala is Adorn Furniture, a children's boutique called White Buffalo, Boldure Gifts among several other shops.
"It's really turning into, little by little, a district where people can come spend some time and shop and then have lunch. We have several places that are serving lunch now and have a good time and it really doesn't fit the stereotype people have had of the Old City," said Sims.
Sims has more on his blog, Inside of Knoxville.
