KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Five restaurants failed their inspections, according to the Knox Co. Health Dept., in this week's Behind the Kitchen Door.
Oscars, 1840 Cumberland Ave., scored the lowest with a 65. Inspectors found beef at unsafe temperatures, dirty kitchen equipment, and the floors and mop sink were dirty as well. They also said there were no pest strips in the kitchen or hot water in the ladies room.
Ichiban Japanese Grill, 6737 Clinton Hwy., received a 68. Inspectors found shrimp in stagnant water, build-up on the prep table, personal items stored over food and store bags holding food.
IHOP. 7128 Kingston Pike, also got a 68 after inspectors found ranch dressing at unsafe temperatures, dented cans, build up in the microwave, sanitizer in a bucket, and a leaky sink.
Chef Ben Hibachi Chinese Restaurant, 5210 Broadway, was given a 69. Inspectors there saw an employee drinking from an open container and an employee did not wash his or her hands. There were also dented cans and the dish machine did not have enough sanitizer.
Finally, Sunspot, 1909 Cumberland, came in with a 69 when inspectors noticed a dish machine was not running hot enough, waste water dripping, wiping cloths weren't sanitized, mold around the hand sink.
Not all the news was bad, though. Eight restaurants scored above ninety, including:
Froyoz, 6631 Clinton Hwy., 90
Hibachi Factory, 10955 Kingston Pike, 90
Diamond Car Wash, 2908 Magnolia Ave., 90
