KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Four restaurants failed their inspections this week, according to the Knox Co. Health Dept., in our look Behind the Kitchen Door.
Asia Kitchen, 8515 Kingston Pike, scored a 60 after inspectors found a handsink with no running water, dented cans of water chestnuts, the triple sink leaking, lids stored in the handsink, and a bowl used to scoop rice.
El Mexcal, 11110 Kingston Pike, was given a 62 after inspectors spotted fruit flies buzzing around the place; shrimp, steak, and chicken all stored at unsafe temperatures; toxic chemicals; and spoons in the hand sink.
Right next door, Sam and Andy's West, 11110 Kingston Pike, was given a 64 after inspectors found fruit flies buzzing around there as well; chicken, turkey, and salami all stored at unsafe temperatures; and employees not washing their hands.
Finally, Mesiko Cantina, 120 West End Ave. got a 65 with inspectors finding employees using a handsink to wash and peel shrimp, two cans of dented food, toxic chemicals, and unlabeled spices.
