Sharon Redden for Jefferson City Old Time Days
2 cups self rising flour
1/4 cup solid shortening
3/4 sweet milk
1 pkg dried apples
Cut shortening into flour. Stir in milk. Knead until smooth. Roll dough and cut into circles using a small saucer to measure.
Cover apples with wateer. Let stand in refrigerator overnight. Next day, cook 45 to 60 minutes until water is gone. WATCH CAREFULLY. Mash apples and small amount of sugar to taste.
Spoon one heaping TBSP or tsp of filling depending on the size of your circle. Do not put in too much filling or it will cook out. Pierce with fork a couple of times to release steam. Fry in electric skillet at 350 deg til brown on both sides or use an iron skillet on medium heat.
