A Dollywood recipe

2 TBSP butter
4 Apples, peeled, cored and sliced
½ cup sugar
½ tsp cinnamon
biscuit dough


Melt the butter in a heavy saucepan and add the apples, sugar, cinnamon and cook over medium heat about 15 minutes or until tender. Set aside and allow to cool. When the apples are cool, roll pieces of biscuit dough out on a floured surface to make about 7 to 8 inch circles. Place 2 or 3 spoonsful of apple in the center of each circle. Wet the edges of the dough and fold over to make a half-moon shaped pie. Press edges to seal using a fork. Heat a deep fryer or a heavy pot half filled with oil to 350 deg. Carefully lower the pies into the oil turning as needed to brown evenly. This will take 4 to 6 minutes. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle immediately with powdered sugar.
