A Dollywood Recipe

2 cans apple pie filling
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp nutmeg

Empty apples into a large saucepan. Add sugar, and spices and bring to a boil. Cook stirring, until the mixture almost comes to a boil. Let cool completely. Use about 2 TBSP per pie.

2 cups self rising flour
1/4 cup shortening
3/4 cup milk
additional flour for kneading

Cut shortening into flour until it is in small pieces. Stir in milk to make a soft dough. Turn out onto a heavily floured surface and knead until the dough is smooth and satiny. Roll about 1/4 cup dough until it is about 1/8 inch thick. Place pie filling in the center and fold over. Crimp edge with a fork and brush with egg wash. Heat about 1/4 inch oil in a heavy skillet and fry pie at medium/hot until brown on bottom. Turn and fry other side. Serve warm.
