Ingredients

Great American SPAM™ Championship

This is a mother daughter duo who both placed among the top three SPAM winners. As runner ups, Christie’s SPAM Paninis sandwiches came in 3rd, Lauren’s SW SPAM Stew 2nd.



1 loaf bread (Italian or French varieties work best)
1 (12 oz) can SPAM, thinly sliced
1/2 lb. thinly sliced cheese
2 thinly sliced tomatoes
fresh basil
olive oil

Directions

Slice bread, layer SPAM, cheese, tomato and basil on a slice of bread and top with a second bread slice. Brush each side with olive oil. Heat grill pan to medium high. Place sandwich in pan, top with a heavy brick or heavy skillet. Flip sandwich once it has browned, about 2-3 minutes. Brown the second side. Cut and serve with your favorite sauce.

Walter’s Note: A George Foreman grill works great as a pannini press.
