The Old Mill Square is one of Pigeon Forge's oldest landmarks and it's still drawing in thousands of visitors everyday.
As you walk across the bridge from the Parkway, it's almost like stepping back in time.
"With all the glitz and glitter on the Parkway, when you cross this bridge you are actually going back into history over 175 years," said Donna Huffaker, spokesperson for Old Mill Square.
The historic Old Mill is one of the few remaining working mills in the country. They use the original milling equipment - everything from a corn elevator to an old-fashioned grinder. Each bag of cornmeal is carefully weighed and sealed by hand.
"We've got two stores that use a lot of the products that we make right here inside the Old Mill," noted Chuck Childers, the head Miller.
Old Mill Square features two restaurants. At The Old Mill Restaurant you can get all your southern favorites - fried chicken, pot roast - and don't forget to try a bowl of corn chowder or a slice of their famous pecan pie. Across the street, you can enjoy a more casual meal at the Old Mill Pottery House Cafe & Grille. Where else can you find a restaurant that grinds their own corn, makes their own bread and serves food off the very plates they make?
At the Old Mill Pottery House you can watch artisans hand-craft one-of-a-kind pottery pieces.
Each fall, the Old Mill hosts its annual Heritage Day, a fall festival celebrating the heritage of the Smoky Mountains.
"There's something for the singers, something for the children," said Huffaker. "We have a taste from all of our restaurants. Our stores showcase some of their main products. So it is a fun time!"
The Old Mill Heritage Day is Saturday, September 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Pigeon Forge. The Old Mill is located just off the Parkway at traffic light #7.
