East Tennessee Children's Hospital and Kohl's Cares are teaming up to keep kids safe this summer.
Wearing a helmet when riding a bike or scooter is required by law for kids 16 years and younger.
The helmet must fit right. Use the "Two Finger Rule." There should be room for no more than two fingers between the brow line and the helmet on the child's forehead. Also, you should not be able to fit more than two fingers inside the chin strap. The helmet shouldn't rock forward, backward or side-to-side.
The bike should be the proper height for the child, too. Don't forget to always stop and look both ways when entering a street or intersection.
Parents should set the example. Make sure your kids follow the rules all the time.
