Traveling through West Knoxville, you can see signs of urban sprawl everywhere. With each new building, comes less green space. Don't worry nature lovers. There are still plenty of places to get out and enjoy the great outdoors.

The Knox County Parks & Recreation department has developed an amazing greenway system that goes from the city to the county, and even into Blount and other surround counties.

"We've got them through communities. We've got them into parks. We have them around schools," said Ellen Blasius, Community Relations Manager for Knox County Parks & Rec. "There's an area in almost every community where you can get on a greenway."

You can use them for walking, hiking, running, exercise, biking, or roller skating. There not only for recreation, though. You can use them as alternative transportation to work. In fact, you can make a trip from Cedar Bluff to downtown Knoxville almost exclusively on greenways.

Knox County says they have plans to expand the greenway system, including adding trails in South Knoxville and Halls.

To find a greenway near you, visit the Knox County Parks & Recreation department's website.
