Carnival in the Volunteer Spirit

Knoxville (WVLT) -- A month after the most deadly attack on a school campus, East Tennesseans are still trying to show the volunteer spirit.

North Knoxville's Fountain Lanes Bowling Alley on Broadway used Saturday to put on a carnival benefiting Virginia Tech students.

Participants enjoyed a moon bounce, dunk tank and cook out while supporting the good cause.

The events organizer says it's the least he can do to help the families, survivors, and classmates of the victims.

"When I heard about it and everything, I was doing it for about a week later," said carnival organizer Ricky Sparva. "I decided I was going to put a small carnival together, just to try and raise money to support the families.""

The carnival was expected to raise three or four hundred dollars for the day.

Though not scheduled, Sparva says it may run again tomorrow.
