Benjamin Woods is collecting shoes. Any kind, any size.
He says, "I'm hoping to get a thousand shoes on my birthday."
And not for himself, but for charity. That's all he wants as he turns 13 on July 17th.
Kim Woods, Benjamin's mother says, "His father and I were sitting outside by the fire one night and he come out and said I want to do something special for my bday. He was turning 13 and that's special in itself. He said i want to collect shoes."
Benjamin says, "I thought shoes, people really need, so I thought that would be a great idea to do, because there are thousands of kids out there who don't have that kind of stuff."
Benjamin was excited to see the bags of shoes from WVLT-TV employees, to add to the more than 100 pairs he already has for charity.
"We are extremely proud of his giving attitude," Kim says. "He has not asked for his presents at all, just asked that everybody give shoes."
But don't worry - the family has something special planned for Benjamin on his actual birthday.
Kim says, "Of course we have a few surprises up our sleeves for him."
If you would like to donate new or used shoes to Benjamin's collection which he plans to give out through SMARM, Smoky Mountain Area Rescue Ministries: here is his fb page and PO box:
