Once a month, Kim Fife and some of her staff from Eden Salon in Alcoa set up shop at the Maryville Housing Authority's Community Center.
They'll cut and style anywhere from 15-20 people each visit.
Kim even drives to one of the apartment buildings to pick up a woman who cannot make the trek over to the center.
Kim and her stylists try to make this experience as real as possible. They bring along all the necessary tools and styling products, even the salon chairs! And they're not light!
Her husband is a big help with that. Kim says her husband helps load and unload those heavy chairs.
There's no appointment necessary and no payment accepted.
One grandmother tried to give her a tip and she wouldn't take it. Kim tells the clients here to take spend it on dinner.
She says, "A lot of elderly people live here. They have to buy their medicine, food and they just don't have the money for a haircut."
Rita Cooper, a grandmother of three says, "She (Kim) did it just the way I love it."
Not only did Rita get "her" locks chopped, and styled, but her grandchildren did as well.
"How blessed can I be right now. Like she says, instead of tipping her she says go out and get the kids a meal. It will tickle them. It tickles me," says Rita.
For Kim, it's all about putting a smile on their face.
Kim says, "It'll all come back to me and it has. It all comes back. Pay it forward. I don't feel I am losing anything!"
And that's not all, Kim Fife also shares her volunteer spirit with the homeless once a month.
On a Thursday night she and her crew will cut hair at Knox Area Rescue Ministries.
And she brings them some simple necessities you can help her collect!
She collects travel sized soap, shampoo mouthwash, toothbrushes, toothpaste. All kinds of personal hygiene items. But they have to be travel size, ones from hotels.
If you would like to help out, you can drop them off at Eden Salon, 253 Lindsay Street in Alcoa.
