KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- They say cats have nine lives, but they might have even more, if they're not sitting in cages in shelters. Animal adoption is always a great option for any homeless pet, but fostering can save many lives.

Organizations like the Siamese Cat Rescue helps place these animals in temporary homes while a permanent home is found.But, there aren't any foster families right now in the East Tennessee area.

The rescue takes siamese often from shelters and places them with volunteers temporarily. We found several siamese in the3 Young Williams Animal Center.

The shelter director, Monica Brown says siamese are like dogs, outspoken, they like attention and can be very "talkative."

She also says they are like lap dogs, they'll curl up on your lap and want to be pet.But with out any people willing to foster, more cats will be put down.Melanie Johnson, ET Coordinator for the Siamese Cat Rescue says by fostering, you can save several lives a year.

That's because the cat is usually in your home for a few weeks.The foster family helps promote the cat by uploading pictures and video to the Siamese Cat Rescue website.That's where potential owners can view the cats available for adoption.

And, if the cat you want isn't close by, the rescue group will arrange for it to be transported.

The organization also provides training for fostering a cat and plenty of support.
