Volunteer Spirit: Pound puppy offers friendly face at Alzheimer's home

KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- About 21 people with Alzheimer's disease live at Courtyards Senior Living.

Cole lives there too. He was a pound puppy they adopted four years ago and has been a blessing.

He has comforted families during the last moments of a loved one's life by being in the room and sometimes putting his head on their feet.

Staff say he reminds the patients of a childhood pet they have, and they look at Cole as something they need to look after and care for.

Cole also was the mascot in 2011 for the annual Alzheimer's Tennessee walk, and raises money through his Facebook page, "Cole Courtyards"
